FAQ
Essential nutrients are chemical substances the body needs to function that must be obtained through food. They include protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals.
Nutrition has an overwhelming impact on well-being, both mental and physical. The foods you put in your mouth can influence your energy levels, immune function, mood, disease risk, and longevity.
Yes, a balanced diet, including whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds, can reduce the risk of developing chronic health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. Limiting saturated fats, trans fats, and added sugars can also lower disease risk.
To keep your diet focused on the health-boosting ingredients it needs, you should read product labels, choose your grocery purchases wisely, and cook and eat at home more often. It’s also wise to eat reasonable portion sizes to keep your calorie intake in check.
Extra weight accumulates when you eat more food than your body requires. Your body stores extra calories as fat, so eating fewer calories can help you lose weight or prevent extra pounds in the first place.

Reyna Franco, RDN

Justin Laube, MD

As part of the faculty, he completed a medical education fellowship and received a certificate in innovation in curriculum design and evaluation. As a food and nutrition communications professional, Dr. Klinger is a global nutrition professor, award-winning author, and the founder of Hispanic Food Communications.
She is on the board at Global Rise to build a formal community nutrition program as part of an ambitious initiative to create a regenerative food system in Uganda in partnership with tribal and community leaders. This program included an extensive training session on food safety and sanitation that displayed cultural sensitivity and various communication strategies and incentives to spread these important food safety and sanitation messages into the communities.

In her private practice, Dr. Green provides psychiatric consultative services and offers an office-based buprenorphine maintenance program to support recovery from opioid addictions. She enjoys offering lifestyle medicine consultation to those interested in maximizing their emotional and physical health by replacing unhealthy behaviors with positive ones, such as eating healthfully, being physically active, managing stress, avoiding risky substance use, improving sleep, and improving the quality of their relationships.
At the opioid treatment programs, Green serves as medical director, working with a team of counselors, nurses, and other medical providers. The programs provide evidence-based treatment (including buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone) for persons suffering from opioid use disorders (such as addictions to heroin, fentanyl, or prescription pain medications).

She also enjoyed supervising residents in her prior role as assistant consulting professor to the department of psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine. Yuying Luo, MD

Yuying Luo, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine at Mount Sinai West and Morningside in New York City. She aims to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered, and holistic care for her patients.
Her clinical and research focus includes patients with disorders of gut-brain interaction such as irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia; patients with lower gastrointestinal motility (constipation) disorders and defecatory and anorectal disorders (such as dyssynergic defecation); and women’s gastrointestinal health.

Anderson has worked with clients from all walks of life, but she currently specializes in nutrition therapy and lifestyle medicine for women. She’s the founder of PlantBasedMavens.com, a hub for women to get evidence-based, practical, and woman-centered guidance on nutrition and cooking, hormone health, fertility, pregnancy, movement, mental well-being, nontoxic living, and more.
Anderson is board-certified in lifestyle medicine and serves as lead faculty of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s (ACLM) "Food as Medicine" course. She is past chair of the ACLM's registered dietitian member interest group, secretary of the women's health member interest group, and nutrition faculty for many of ACLM's other course offerings. She is the coauthor of the Plant-Based Nutrition Quick Start Guide and works with many of the leading organizations in nutrition and lifestyle medicine to develop nutrition content, recipes, and educational programs.
