Dozens of batches of frozen Outshine Fruit Bars sold nationally have been recalled because they may be contaminated with glass, according to an announcement from the manufacturer, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream.

 So far, there have been no injuries reported in relation to the recall.

Do not eat the recalled fruit bars. They can be returned to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

What Happens if You Swallow Glass?

According to the nonprofit Poison Control, the dangers of swallowing glass depend on the size and sharpness of the pieces. Swallowing a small piece of glass isn’t likely to cause any symptoms or harm, although chewing on one could cause cuts in the mouth.

Swallowing large or sharp pieces of glass could injure the throat, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Cuts in any of these places could cause:

  • Pain in the chest or stomach
  • Blood in your poop

In severe cases, swallowing glass could lead to:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Bloated or swollen stomach

If you suspect you may have swallowed glass and are concerned, you should contact a healthcare provider.
