5 Comfortable Shoes I’m Living in This Spring

The weather is finally starting to feel like spring, aka the hardest time to dress appropriately. One day, the temps climb into the 70s, the next it’s 40 degrees and raining. I also can’t stand getting caught in shoes that either leave my feet too warm or too cold, so I’ve built out a collection of comfortable shoes that work for every spring weather scenario. It’s not an exhaustive amount, just five that I can cycle through as needed, whether I’m going for a hike after a spring storm or running errands on an unusually balmy afternoon. So if spring’s mercurial weather patterns have left you footwear-shy, the picks below should at the very least give you some inspo. Best of all: a few of them are on sale. If only it were so easy to prevent seasonal allergies.

Vega Campo Sneakers

White sneakers are timeless, but they’re an especially great pick for spring because they go with most light-colored outfits. I’ve had this pair in extra-white/matcha for over a year, and they’re some of the comfiest sneakers I own. They’re incredibly sturdy for white leather; I’ve accidentally rubbed them against many a curb, and they’ve never scuffed or scratched. They also hold up surprisingly well in rainstorms. I love that the brand uses sustainable materials, like Amazonian rubber and recycled plastic. But the best part is the fit: I’ve walked over 40 blocks in a day in these babies, and they managed to keep my feet feeling great. Bonus: the heel top also never causes blisters. Several colorways are currently on sale, and the black/white combo is 20% off.

Vivaia Lace-Up Square-Toe Sneakerina (Cristina)

The ballerina sneaker trend isn’t going away anytime soon, but they’re at the apex of comfortable and cute, so we’re not mad about it. We love this pair from Vivaia, a brand that makes some of the most comfortable flats for work around (the square-toe Mary Janes will always be in our closets). The Sneakerina feels like you’re walking barefoot, but with enough support to keep you going. The shoes’ elastic backs keep them from rubbing or slipping, and the square front gives your toes more space to move. Did we mention you can also roll them up so they fit compactly in your suitcase? We can’t imagine a more versatile shoe for spring.

Sperry Saltwater Duck Lug Boot

These duck boots are my favorite transition boots by far. They last forever (I’ve had mine for over seven years, and they fit like new), genuinely look cute with most pants, and they’ll keep your feet dry during spring rainstorms. They’re warm enough for 40-degree days, but they’re also somehow breathable for the warmer months. I like to keep them somewhat loosely tied, and then just pull them on and off (they’re lightweight enough to stay on your foot). They also have a handy zipper so you never have to tie or untie them, if you don’t want to.

Seavees Women’s Legend Sneaker

If there’s one pair of shoes that will take you from now through the summer, it’s plain canvas tennis shoes like these from Seavees. My usual problem with tennis shoes is that they have no support for my flat feet — not the case with this pair. They have the cushiest insole (it’s a bio-based memory foam), and the white canvas isn’t too white, if you know what I mean. I love wearing them with sun dresses, but they’re also the perfect throw-on-and-go sneakers with your favorite worn-in jeans or workout leggings. They’re super breathable, 100 percent vegan, and made from entirely recycled materials. If you prefer a slip-on style, try these.

Rothy Fisherman Sandal

When it gets warm enough to let your toes peek out, fisherman sandals will be your bare feet’s best friends. They’re stylish but also built for walking around all day in the spring sunshine. We love their insoles, which are super plushy, and the signature Rothy’s fabric upper is made from recycled plastic bottles. They’re designed to stretch and move with you, so the shoes never rub. You can easily wear them from work to dinner, and we love them with wide-leg ankle pants or a casual midi-length dress. Unbelievable perk: they’re machine-washable.
