About
Ricardo Rafael Correa Márquez, MD, is a physician-scientist, educator, and leader in endocrinology, medical education, and health equity. He currently serves as program director of the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Fellowship and director of patient outreach and belonging at the Medical Specialty Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where he also practices as a staff endocrinologist.
He is also clinical professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and adjunct professor of medicine at the Ohio University Heritage School of Medicine.
Dr. Correa earned his MD and EdD from the University of Panama, followed by a research fellowship in epidemiology and tropical diseases at the Gorgas Memorial Institute. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Miami–Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he received multiple awards for clinical and research excellence. He then trained in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at the National Institutes of Health, serving as chief fellow, and pursued advanced fellowship training in neuroendocrinology with a focus on adrenal and pituitary disorders and rare endocrine genetic conditions.
A clinician-investigator, Correa has led pioneering research in hypercortisolism, mild autonomous cortisol secretion, adrenal incidentalomas and disease, and transgender health, including federally and industry-funded studies on adrenal incidentalomas, vaccination in diabetes, and the cardiometabolic and cancer outcomes of hormone-affirming therapies.
His scholarly output includes more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and clinical guidelines, and he serves on editorial boards of high-impact journals such as Endocrine Practice, Journal of Investigative Medicine, and Clinical Thyroidology. His expertise in clinical trials, phases II and III of drug development, and translational endocrinology has positioned him as a national leader in advancing endocrine science and patient-centered care.
He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and American College of Medical Quality. He is deeply engaged in mentorship, particularly for underrepresented and international medical graduates, through organizations such as the Latino Medical Student Association, Student National Medical Association, ElevateMeD, and the Pathway Initiative.
Correa's impact has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, recognizing his leadership, dedication, and excellence in medicine.
