Amber Charoen, MD

Amber Charoen, MD, is a triple board-certified gastroenterologist at Prosser Memorial Health in Prosser, Washington, where she provides comprehensive gastrointestinal (GI) care in a rural setting. Combining advanced specialty expertise with an integrative, patient-centered approach, she addresses the complex interplay between gut health, nutrition, and systemic conditions, with a strong emphasis on women's gastrointestinal health.

Her clinical interests span motility and complex bowel disorders, small bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and the frequently underrecognized intersection of GI disorders and chronic pelvic pain.

Her holistic practice is deeply informed by her personal experience living with stage IV endometriosis, fueling her commitment to listening closely to patients and addressing overlooked conditions. To provide truly individualized, evidence-based care, Dr. Charoen integrates standard medicine with insights from nutrition and lifestyle. She is currently pursuing certification as a Functional Medicine Certified Professional–Medical and is an active member of the International Pelvic Pain Society.

Passionate about rural medicine, she leverages community assets — like access to fresh, locally sourced foods — to improve patient health and bridge healthcare gaps in underserved areas.

Charoen completed her gastroenterology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University, a program renowned for its focus on women’s GI health. Formerly an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she now serves as a clinical assistant professor at Washington State University, mentoring the next generation of medical students.

Her ongoing academic interests include diagnostic innovation, artificial intelligence in GI imaging, and noninvasive approaches to disease, all driven by a dedication to advance accessible, high-quality community care.
