How to Find the Best Sheets for Healthier Sleep: Tested in 2026

Tired of Poor Sleep? Here Are Our Favorite Sheets for Night Sweats, Allergies, and Restless Sleep

Everyday Health independently vets all recommended products. All prices are accurate at time of publish. If you purchase a featured product, we may be compensated. Learn why you can trust us.

Shopping for sheets sounds simple until you actually do it. Perhaps you’ve been dealing with sleepless nights, or waking up at 3 a.m. due to feeling too hot, too cold, or itchy. Your sheets’ material can have a huge impact on your sleep quality, and changing them up might be just the sleep hygiene adjustment you need to improve your shut-eye.

But committing to new bed sheets can feel oddly high-stakes: The labels don’t always make it easy to know what you’re really getting. Finding the best bed sheets often comes down to how you sleep and what feels comfortable. (That’s why searching “best bedsheets” won’t work.)

So we’re offering you a practical shopping tool, not just a roundup of pretty sheet sets.

We looked at the sheet types you’re most likely to see when shopping. Then we evaluated them through the lens of real-life needs, like sleeping hot, sharing a bed, outfitting a deep mattress, or finding something gentle enough for sensitive skin or for people with asthma or allergies. We considered construction, feel, breathability, fit, ease of care, and overall value, along with firsthand testing for each pick. We also consulted experts on what shoppers should prioritize before making a purchase.

“Sheets can have an impact on your sleep because your environment matters, and what’s touching your skin can either support or disrupt it,” says Angela Holliday-Bell, MD, a board-certified pediatrician, sleep specialist, and founder of The Solution Is Sleep, based in the Greater Chicago Area.

Whether you want crisp, hotel-style bedding, a softer, lived-in feel, or sheets that keep you cool through the night, this guide should help you narrow down the options with confidence.

When to Consult a Doctor

Using the right sheets may help with comfort, temperature regulation, and irritation, but they can’t treat ongoing health issues. If you often have night sweats, skin flare-ups, congestion, wheezing, or disrupted sleep that doesn’t improve, check in with your healthcare professional. A doctor can help you figure out if bedding is part of the problem or if something else is going on.

Bamboo Sheets

Bamboo sheet sets
Everyday Health
Bamboo sheets are a good option if you tend to sleep hot. They’re breathable, moisture-wicking, and feel cool against your skin. Typically made from bamboo-derived rayon (also known as viscose), they’re known for their silky, drapey feel.

This can make them appealing for anyone who finds traditional cotton to be too crisp.

That said, bamboo sheets aren’t for everyone. They tend to cost more than basic cotton sets, and some may require gentler care or wrinkle more than you might expect.

Layla bamboo sheets

Budget-Friendly Bamboo

Layla Bamboo Sheets

For silky feeling bamboo sheets, the Layla Bamboo Sheets are a solid, budget-friendly option. Made from 100%-bamboo viscose with a 300-thread count, they have a smooth, soft feel. They’re hypoallergenic, or less likely to irritate sensitive skin and trigger allergies. They’re also made from Oeko-Tex Standard 100–certified fabric that has been tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances.

Writer Jessica Migala found them easy to care for and appreciated the value. The silky texture was also a hit. “My husband loved them and called them our silky sheets,” she says. But they weren’t a perfect fit for both parties. While Migala’s husband loved them, she felt they were “a bit too heavy and sometimes too warm in the middle of the night.” So they may not be ideal for someone who wants the lightest, coolest option.

luxome luxury bamboo sheet set

Luxury Bamboo

LUXOME Luxury Sheet Set

If you’re drawn to bamboo sheets for their soft, cooling feel, definitely check out the LUXOME Luxury Sheet Set. Made from 100% pure viscose from bamboo, these sheets have an incredibly silky feel. They’re designed with moisture-wicking and thermal-regulating properties, which may help sleepers stay cooler in the summer and more comfortable in the winter. Deep pockets and extra corner bands also help keep the fitted sheet securely in place.

Editor Olivia Campbell was impressed with how soft and comfortable these sheets felt from the start. They were “a lot softer than my previous cotton sheets and stayed silky and comfortable throughout testing.” They also stood out for temperature regulation. Campbell says the “sheets made sleep feel cooler and less sweaty,” and noticeably helped reduce night sweats.

Shoppers who prefer crisp, structured bedding may find the smooth sateen finish a little too silky. But if your priority is softness, cooling comfort, and an overall luxurious feel, this set delivers on all three.

Linen Sheets

linen sheet sets
Everyday Health
For bedding that feels breathable, relaxed, and naturally textured rather than silky or crisp, consider trying linen bed sheets. Like bamboo, linen is also moisture-wicking, so it’s ideal for folks who get night sweats. Made from flax fibers, linen has a more casual, lived-in look and feel that many love, especially in warmer weather.

It’s also the kind of fabric that gets softer over time. So if you’re willing to trade that out-of-the-box softness for a sheet set that breaks in beautifully, linen sheets could be your ideal match.

However, linen’s texture can be a tough sell for some; it’s usually more noticeable than cotton or bamboo, and it tends to wrinkle easily. So you may want to take a hard pass if you prefer a smoother, more polished-looking bed.

Baloo stone washed linen sheet set

Lived-In Linen

Baloo Living Stonewashed Linen Sheets Set

The Baloo Living Stonewashed Linen Sheets are a standout pick for their balance of breathability, softness, and long-term durability. Made from 100-percent European stonewashed linen, they have the airy, relaxed feel that linen lovers want, and they feel comfortable from the start. The stonewashed finish gives them a softer hand-feel right out of the package and, like many linen sheets, they’re designed to get even softer with time and each wash.

Practical details that stand out include a 16-inch (in) fitted-sheet depth that works well for a wide range of mattress heights, plus Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification and plastic-free packaging.

These sheets are very much an investment. But for shoppers willing to spend more on linen, they offer the qualities that make the category appealing in the first place: breathability, temperature regulation, and that effortlessly relaxed look and feel. Migala called this her “favorite linen sheet set,” describing the sheets as “so soft and comfy.”

The biggest downside is the price, especially if you’re not yet sure whether linen is your preferred sheet texture. But if you want a high-quality linen set that feels luxurious without losing that casual, breathable character, our tester’s review speaks for itself.

Quince european linen sheet set

Best for First-Timers

Quince European Linen Sheet Set

If you’re curious about linen sheets but you’re not quite ready to splurge, the Quince European Linen Sheet Set is a good place to start. Ethically woven from European flax and pre-washed for softness, these mid-weight linen sheets offer the relaxed, lived-in look of linen.

They come in 30-plus color options, which adds to their appeal if aesthetics matter just as much as performance. Being Oeko-Tex Standard 100–certified, they also check an extra box for shoppers who prefer bedding that’s been tested for harmful substances. Like many linen sheets, these have a slightly thicker, textured feel. During testing, they impressed us with how breathable, comfortable, and moisture-wicking they felt throughout the night.

The main downside of linen, in general, is that it can look noticeably wrinkled. Still, for an approachable entry point into the material — especially one backed by a 365-night return policy and free shipping in the United States — this set makes the category feel easier to try.

Percale Sheets

Percale sheet set
Everyday Health
If you tend to sleep hot and prefer sheets with a less-slippery finish, percale sheets might be for you.

They’re known for feeling crisp, lightweight, and cool because of how they’re woven. The classic percale one-over, one-under weave gives that classic hotel-sheet vibe: crisp, breathable, and freshly made.

The trade-off is that percale doesn't feel as buttery soft or smooth as sateen, bamboo, or other silkier sheet types right out of the package. It can also wrinkle more easily. However, for anyone who loves a crisp, cool feel and loves that airiness, percale can be a very appealing option.

Saatva Percale sheet set

Best Budget Percale

Saatva Percale Sheet Set

The Saatva Percale Sheet Set is a great option if you want that crisp, breathable feel at a more approachable price. Made with a classic one-yarn-over, one-yarn-under weave and a 200-thread count, these sheets are light, airy, and good for hot sleepers. They’re made with long-staple cotton, which has longer fibers that help the sheets feel smoother and last longer. The deep pockets fit mattresses up to 16 in high, and the sheets are certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100.

Migala found these sheets to be “a nice balance of softness and lightweight cooling.” They felt “breathable, comfortable, and true to their claims.” And they became even better with wear, she says. The biggest selling point is that they deliver the crisp, cool appeal of percale without feeling too stiff or overly basic at an approachable price.

coyuchi organic percale sheet set

Organic Percale

Coyuchi Refined Organic Percale Sheet Set

For classic percale sheets with a crisp, breathable feel, the Coyuchi Refined Organic Percale Sheet Set stands apart. These sheets are made from Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)—certified, 100-percent organic cotton with a 300-thread count. That makes them well-suited to warm sleepers or anyone who prefers bedding that feels airy and breathable rather than silky or drapey. Details like a 15-in fitted-sheet pocket, extra-long pillowcases, and a matching organic fabric bag add to the elevated feel.

Writer and editor Sabrina Rojas Weiss loved their classic crispness. She says that “they kept their crisp, clean feeling for about a week, longer than most cotton sheets I’ve tried.” She also found them “very breathable and even more cooling than regular cotton or rayon sheets I already own.”

While Coyuchi describes them as smooth, Weiss says they have more texture than expected; but in a way, she ended up preferring them to her usual sheets, especially as a first experience with percale. The main drawback is wrinkles: These sheets do wrinkle quite a bit.

Cooling Sheets

Cooling sheet sets
Everyday Health

“As the body prepares for sleep, it naturally releases heat, especially from the hands, feet, and face. This cooling coincides with increased sleepiness. But when your environment is too warm, your body can’t shed heat effectively, making it harder to fall and stay asleep,” says Mike Gradisar, PhD, a clinical psychologist, research scientist, and head of sleep science at Sleep Cycle, based in Adelaide, Australia.

Cooling sheets are designed to help you sleep by reducing heat buildup and improving airflow around your body. Rather than referring to one single fabric, the term usually covers sheet sets made from materials known for breathability, moisture-wicking, or a cooler feel against skin. The right cooling material for you depends on the feel you prefer. Not every cooling sheet will feel cool to the touch, and some may prioritize softness over airflow or vice versa. If you tend to sleep hot, deal with night sweats, or just want bedding that feels lighter and less heat-trapping, this is one of the most useful categories to consider.

coop cool sheet set

Cool on Contact

Coop Cool+ Sheet Set

For sheets that feel noticeably cool the second you get into bed, the Coop Cool+ Sheet Set is a good choice. Made from a nylon-spandex blend, these sheets are designed to pull excess heat away from your body while maintaining a smooth, silky finish. They’re quick-drying and wrinkle-resistant, which adds practical appeal for shoppers who want low-maintenance bedding along with a cooler sleep surface.

This set is geared toward hot sleepers who prefer sheets with a sleek, glide-like feel rather than a crisp or airy one. Weiss found them “very soft and definitely cool to the touch.” She says “they felt almost too cool to use in winter and would be better suited to warmer weather.”

The biggest trade-off was the texture. Weiss found the sheets to be “slippery, and a bit clingy, though they still felt very cooling overall.” That being said, these may not be the best fit if you dislike drapey, body-hugging bedding.

Rest evercool sheet set

Made for Night Sweats

Rest Evercool+ Cooling Sheet Set

If night sweats are a concern, the Rest Evercool+ Cooling Full Sheet Set stands out for doing exactly what cooling sheets are supposed to: help you stay dry, comfortable, and noticeably less overheated through the night.

These Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1—certified sheets are made with the brand’s proprietary Evercool fabric and infused with Ionic+ antimicrobial silver yarns. They’re designed to control odor, feel cool to the touch, wick away moisture, and regulate temperature as you snooze.

Editorial director Simone Scully was especially impressed by how well these sheets performed in warm conditions: “These sheets are incredible. They’re actually very cool. I used to wake up sweaty in my room in the summer, but not anymore with these sheets.” They also felt “slippery and silk-adjacent,” she says. That may be a plus for shoppers who like smoother-feeling bedding.

Silk and Silk-Like Sheets

silk-like-sheet sets
Everyday Health
Silk sheets are ideal if you deal with allergies, as the fabric naturally repels mold and dust mites. Silk or silk-like sheets are popular with people who prefer bedding with a smooth, drapey finish rather than a crisp or textured one. Silk is a natural protein fiber known for its soft hand-feel and luster, which explains why it has long been associated with luxury textiles.

They’re not the most practical choice for everyone, though. Some can feel slippery, require more care, or trap warmth more than other fabrics.

Sijo airyweight eucalyptus sheet set

Lightweight Silk-Like Sheets

SIJO AiryWeight Eucalyptus Sheet Set

Made to feel silky, wick away moisture, and be gentle on sensitive skin, the SIJO AiryWeight Eucalyptus Sheet Set stands out for its airy feel. The sheets are certified both Oeko-Tex Class 1 and Asthma- & Allergy-friendly, and they’re designed with a 16-in deep pocket to fit most mattresses securely.

Editor Ashley Ziegler found these Tencel lyocell sheets “very lightweight and very soft, which made them a good fit for sleeping with night sweats.” Plus, the fabric became even softer after washing, she says. She also felt that the sheets largely delivered on the brand’s claims around moisture-wicking and overall comfort.

These sheets are soft but also slippery, which may be a plus or a drawback depending on your preferences. They’re not the most low-maintenance of sheets, Ziegler warns: “They need a bit of care in the washer and dryer to avoid wrinkles.”

Origin tencel bedding set

Low Maintenance Silk-Like

Origin Snow Silk Tencel Bedding Set

If you want the smooth, luxe feel of silk without going fully in on high-maintenance bedding, the Origin Snow Silk Tencel Bedding Set is our recommendation. Made from the brand’s Snow Silk Tencel lyocell fabric, these Oeko-Tex Standard 100–certified sheets feature a four-over, one-under weave and ultra-fine threads. This creates a finish that feels buttery smooth, softly draped, and polished on the bed. They also have a bit more substance, which helps them feel indulgent without losing some breathability.

Editor Ally Hirschlag liked how silky, smooth, and comfortable these sheets felt. “They fit the bed well and never seemed to wrinkle, which is a major plus for anyone who wants a polished look without extra fuss,” she says. She also found them easy to wash and dry, making them more practical than some other silk or silk-like sheets.

The main caveat is that, while they felt breathable, they didn’t strike Hirschlag as especially cooling or temperature-regulating on warmer nights.

Cotton Sheets

cotton sheet sets
Everyday Health
Cotton sheets are quite breathable, making them perfect for hot or sweaty sleepers. They’re moisture-wicking, so they help you avoid waking up with that sticky feeling. Cotton is the most widely used natural fiber in textiles. It’s familiar, versatile, and comes in a wide range of feels depending on the thread count and quality.

For many, cotton strikes a balance between comfort, durability, and price. It can feel crisp and cool in a percale weave, smoother and slightly softer in sateen, or somewhere in between.
Organic cotton may also appeal to shoppers thinking about environmental impact, since it avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. It also may use less water than conventional cotton in some production systems.

SlumberCloud performance cotton sheet set

Most Comfortable

Slumber Cloud Performance Cotton Sheet Set

Made with 70% premium cotton and 30% patented Outlast viscose fibers, these cotton sheets are soft, breathable, and temperature-regulating without losing the classic feel of cotton. Slumber Cloud brings some extra practicality to the package with built-in fitted-sheet corner straps that fit mattresses up to 16 in deep, and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification.

Campbell found these sheets “soft, smooth, and very comfortable, especially compared with traditional cotton sets that can feel rougher or scratchier.” She also says the sheets delivered on the brand’s claims around comfort and temperature regulation. “While they did not feel especially cool to the touch, they were more breathable and temperature regulating than standard cotton, and helped prevent overheating at night,” she says.

Bedsure purewoven washed cotton sheet set

Budget but Doesn’t Feel Like It

Bedsure PureWoven Organic Cotton Sheet Set

The Bedsure PureWoven Organic Cotton Sheet Set is an organic-cotton sheet set that feels so luxurious for the price. Made from 100% organic Turkish Aegean, long-staple cotton, these sheets have a 300-thread-count sateen weave, 17-in deep pockets, 360-degree elastic, and reinforced corners. They’re also Oeko-Tex Standard 100– and GOTS–certified. The packaging is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)–certified materials, adding to the sense that this set was designed with both comfort and practicality in mind.

I appreciated how soft and luxurious these sheets made my bed. The main downside is that they can wrinkle if you don’t pull them from the dryer right away, so they’re not completely fuss-free. But if you want organic cotton sheets that feel polished, comfortable, and well-made without a high price tag, this set is the way to go.

Deep-Pocket Sheets

deep-pocket sheets
Everyday Health

Deep-pocket sheets are less about fabric feel and type and more about fit, making them a crucial category for shoppers with thicker mattresses. They also tend to be easier to put on, so possibly better for folks with mobility issues. If you use a pillow-top, a mattress topper, or prefer a bed that sits higher, standard fitted sheets may pop off the corners, or never quite feel secure to begin with. Deep-pocket sheets are designed to solve that problem with a deeper fitted-sheet depth. In general, deep-pocket sheets are made for mattresses that are thicker than standard, around 13 in or more. The best deep-pocket sheets still come down to the material and feel you prefer, but getting the right pocket depth is what keeps everything in place.

SlumberCloud performance tencel sheet set

Comfort With Deep Pockets

Slumber Cloud Performance TENCEL Sheet Set

The Slumber Cloud Performance Tencel Sheet Set stood out not only because it fits mattresses up to 16 in deep, but because it genuinely improved our tester’s sleep. Made with a blend of Tencel lyocell and patented Outlast viscose fibers, these sheets feature dual temperature-regulation technologies to help prevent overheating. They also include built-in corner straps and are Oeko-Tex Standard 100–certified.

Campbell says these sheets made a real difference in her sleep quality: “I was less sweaty while sleeping and even fell asleep faster than usual while using them.” She also felt the sheets were comfortable and became softer with each use. If your mattress is deep and your main goal is comfort on night 1, this set makes a strong case for the splurge.

Breescape Cooling sheets

Deep-Pocket Sheets That Stay Put

Breescape Cooling Sheets Anti-Slip 2.0

No one loves when their sheets shuffle around in the night, and it’s a common problem with loftier mattresses. The Breescape Cooling Deep Pocket Sheets securely fit mattresses up to 18 in deep, and also provide noticeable cooling.

Made with the brand’s BlendTek fabric — a breathable blend of nylon, polyester, and spandex — they’re designed to feel instantly silky and cool to the touch. They’re also meant to help with moisture management through the night.

Bonus features that make them especially practical include anti-slip grip strips to help keep the flat sheet in place, and elastic corner bands on the fitted sheet for a more-secure fit. Add in their Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification and wrinkle-resistant finish, and they offer an ideal mix of comfort and convenience.

I tested these sheets and think they’re a strong option to use in warm weather. They felt instantly cool to a point where they almost surprised me on colder nights. My husband and I have both enjoyed the soft, almost silky feel, and we thoroughly appreciate that these sheets stay in place well and don’t wrinkle.

Tencel Sheets

tencel sheet set
Everyday Health
People who overheat at night or have reactive skin will likely appreciate Tencel sheets. They feel cool, wick moisture, are gentle on skin, and appeal to shoppers seeking a more-sustainable material. Its lyocell fibers are also produced in a resource-saving, closed-loop process with more than 99.8 percent solvent recovery.

Tencel is Lenzing’s brand name for lyocell and modal fibers made from wood pulp.

In sheet form, it’s known for its soft, drapey feel that falls between cotton and silk.
Brooklyn Bedding deep pocket tencel sheets

Lightweight Tencel

Brooklyn Bedding Deep Pocket Tencel Sheets

Brooklyn Bedding Deep Pocket Tencel Sheets give you that lightweight, silky feel many of us seek when jumping into bed. Made from 100-percent Tencel lyocell with a 300-thread count, they offer a silky, drapey feel, along with moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating performance. They’re also Oeko-Tex Standard 100–certified, wrinkle-resistant, and easy to care for, which adds to their everyday appeal.

Ziegler says these sheets are “lightweight, soft, and easy to wash.” Plus, “they stayed comfortable without seeming to stretch out or lose their feel over time.” The texture of the sateen weave runs silky and slippery-soft, which may be a plus or a drawback depending on your preferences.

Evergrace Tencel sheet set

Tencel on a Budget

Evergrace Tencel Sheet Set

Our most budget-friendly option on this list, the Evergrace Tencel Sheet Set is made from 100-percent Lenzing Tencel lyocell sourced from Austria. The sheets are designed to feel silky, breathable, and cool, with moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating qualities that make eucalyptus-based bedding so popular with hot sleepers. The sheets fit mattresses up to 16 in deep and are certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100.

For a budget-friendlier set, these sheets still deliver a polished, elevated feel. I found the sheets soft, silky, and rather cool; not necessarily cool to the touch like others I tried, but they kept me cool throughout the night.

The biggest downside is that they wrinkle easily, which was a bit frustrating, as I prefer a more crisp, polished look. Still, if your priority is an affordable, breathable, and comfortable year-round sheet set, this one is worth a look.

What Does Thread Count Actually Mean, and Why Does It Matter?

Thread count refers to the number of threads (horizontal and vertical) woven into one square in of fabric.

“It matters because a higher thread count can feel softer. However, what matters more is the type of material and how breathable it is,” says Dr. Holliday-Bell. In other words, thread count can affect feel, but material type and weave are often more useful indicators of sheet performance and quality.

That’s why a higher thread count is not automatically better. “For example, 100-percent cotton sheets tend to feel comfortable across a range of thread counts, because they allow airflow and help regulate temperature. If a fabric is too dense or made with synthetic fibers, it can trap heat and lead to overheating, which can disrupt sleep,” says Holliday-Bell.

Are There Better Sheet Materials for Sensitive Skin?

For people with sensitive skin, 100-percent cotton is typically a safe bet. “It’s naturally soft, gentle, and hypoallergenic. It’s less likely to irritate compared to synthetic fabrics, which can trap heat, moisture, and even irritants against the skin,” says Holliday-Bell. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), cotton is a better fit than rougher or more irritating fabrics for people with dry, sensitive skin.

That said, cotton isn’t the only material that those with sensitive skin may find comfortable. Smooth, breathable fabrics like Tencel lyocell may also appeal, because they offer softness, breathability, moisture absorption, and comfort.

The main point when dealing with sensitive skin is to control heat and sweat, which may help reduce itching and irritation.

“Look for materials that allow your skin to breathe and help keep you dry overnight, which reduces the chance of discomfort or flare-ups,” says Holliday-Bell.

What Should I Look for if I Want Low-Maintenance Sheets?

In general, shoppers who want fuss-free bedding should look for sheets that can handle regular machine washing, don’t require special cycles beyond basic care, and are less likely to feel overly delicate after repeated use. Wrinkle resistance can also be a plus, though that tends to vary by material and weave.

Based on our testing, a few fabrics stood out as especially easy to live with. The Layla Bamboo Sheets and Origin Snow Silk Tencel Bedding Set were described as super-easy to care for, with no wrinkling and no special washing or drying required. The Brooklyn Bedding Deep Pocket Tencel Sheets also earned points for being easy to wash.

On the other hand, some sets are a bit higher-maintenance. The SIJO AiryWeight Eucalyptus Sheet Set needed a gentle cycle and had to be removed from the dryer quickly to avoid wrinkles, and the Bedsure PureWoven Organic Cotton Sheet Set can also wrinkle if left in the dryer too long. So if your top priority is convenience, it may be worth favoring cotton or smoother Tencel sets. You also might want to be a little more cautious with fabrics that wrinkle easily or need gentler laundering.

FAQ

Are expensive sheets really worth it?

Sometimes, but not always. Expensive sheets can be worth it if you’re paying for better materials, stronger construction, sustainability, or features that boost comfort, like breathability, softness, or temperature regulation. However, high price alone doesn’t guarantee quality. Focus on fabric, weave, feel, and fit rather than assuming the most expensive set will be the best.

Look at the material and weave, since both can tell you more than thread count alone. High-quality sheets should feel well-made rather than flimsy. They should use durable fibers. And they should feature details such as consistent stitching, a secure fit, and fabric that holds up well over time without excessive pilling or stretching.

If your set is starting to feel rough, thin, stretched out, pilled, or it no longer stays clean and comfortable after washing, it’s likely time to replace it. A good rule of thumb is to replace your bed sheets every two to three years, though higher-quality sets may last longer if properly washed and cared for. Your sheets should be washed about once a week, or more often if you sweat heavily, have allergies, or sleep with pets. Washing in cold water can also be a smart move: It tends to be gentler on fabric and uses less energy than hot-water cycles.
