Dads Deserve Self-Care, Too: 40 Father’s Day Gifts to Help Them Take a Break
A lot of much-needed discussion takes place about postpartum mental health for mothers. But fathers face their own mental health challenges during every stage of their children’s lives. Normalizing the critical conversation around men’s mental health is just one part of taking care of the guy (or guys) in your life. You can also encourage them to start practicing self-care, and Father’s Day is a good opportunity to do just that.
From the dad who wants to bond with his newborn to the one who needs to pour more energy into his hobbies, there’s a self-care Father’s Day gift for everyone. We gathered some of the best products we’ve tried in our own homes, as well as those we can’t wait to give the dads in our lives, to make this list. And we think you’ll find something here to show him how much you value his well-being (as much as you do those top-notch dad jokes).
Fill His Well With Wellness

For the Well-Groomed Dad
Jackfir the Facekit
A great grooming set will always be a classic gift. The Facekit from Jackfir features the brand’s shaving cream, facial moisturizer, and facial cleanser, making for a simple yet effective skin-care routine.
Writer Raki Swanson’s husband loved these products. “The packaging is awesome. It is simple, fits well in the shower, and they aren’t big, so they can be [used at] home or [during] travel,” he says. And he plans on taking these items everywhere with him.

For His Aches and Pains
Alo Magnesium Reset Spray
A lot of parenting involves bending or twisting yourself into uncomfortable shapes: hunching over to pick up a baby, squatting low to give your toddler an eye-to-eye talk, trying to keep up playing one-on-one basketball with your energetic preteen. Soothe that tweaked neck and sore lower back with the Alo Magnesium Reset Spray.

For the Cuddly Dad
Lalabu Baby Carrier Shirt
The Lalabu Baby Carrier Shirt will suit new dads who want to snuggle with their newborn hands-free. We especially love that he can pop his baby into the shirt and get some things done for himself, like grabbing a cup of coffee or getting some fresh air during a morning stroll.

For His Hard-Working Muscles
Theragun Sense
The Theragun is a small yet mighty body-massager. It’s designed to ease muscle tension, soothe troublesome aches and pains, and generally bring on a sense of ease and relaxation.
This one is simple and effective. “It comes with two attachments and there are only three buttons to operate it: one to power it on, one to turn up the power, and another to turn down the power,” says editor Katrina Cossey. We like the simplicity because it means there’s no learning curve to getting some much-needed relief.

For the Camper
Therm-A-Rest Compression Pillow
This one is for the campers out there. The Therm-A-Rest compression pillow is a camping pillow made of foam, rather than being inflatable. That makes it far more comfortable than other options out there.
“You can adjust it to be the right firmness and height by cinching a cord, which is pretty cool,” says editor Sabrina Rojas Weiss. Consider this a must-have for his next camping trip.

For the Night Owl
BioLite Range 400 USB-C Fast Charging Headlamp
A headlamp can shine a helpful light during camping trips, night hikes, emergencies, and even late nights spent building things in the garage. This headlamp from BioLite is rechargeable, making it a practical gift. It offers various light options, and it charges fast: Just eight minutes will get you an extra hour of charge.
“Many headlamps don’t have a red light option, and I like that this one does, because red light keeps night vision intact,” says writer Grace Gallagher. It may be a splurge for those who only use headlamps occasionally. But for dads who’ll use this often, the cost per use is minimal.

For the Taco Tuesday Master
Victoria 8" Cast Iron Tortilla Press
A chef loves nothing more than a new kitchen tool to add to his arsenal. This tortilla press is a simple way to make tortillas at home, adding a new layer of fun to the meal.
“It’s also fairly compact and doesn’t take up a lot of space, which is especially important when you have a small kitchen or limited storage space,” says editor Katie Tuttle. Time to chef it up.
Health Comes First

For the Multitasker
Sunny Health & Fitness Treadpad 100 Smart Wi-Fi Connected Treadmill
Between working, being a dad, and handling household duties, it can be difficult to get some steps in. Encourage him to multitask with this walking pad from Sunny Health & Fitness. It has a small footprint and is easy to move around the home, thanks to its handy wheels. Plus, it’s smart, meaning it can connect to an app and to your TV to display guided workouts, deliver insights, and track progress.
Slavik liked that it was big enough to allow for long strides and even break into a gentle jog. The dad in your life can place this at a standing desk so he can walk while finishing those emails.

For the Would-Be Extreme Athlete
Retrospec Dakota Bike and Skate Helmet
Encourage him to take on a new hobby (or continue his old ones more safely) with the Dakota Bike and Skate Helmet from Retrospec. This helmet works for biking, skateboarding, or rollerblading.
“This helmet is very comfortable with plenty of padding inside that doesn’t cause me to overheat,” says Cossey. Her husband was a big fan, too. Plus, this helmet accommodates a variety of head sizes, with Cossey noting that both she and her husband were able to wear the same size comfortably.

For the Long-Haul
CamelBak Hydrobak Hydration Pack
Hiking, running, long walks — these are all activities where it’s important to stay hydrated but cumbersome to carry a water bottle in hand. The CamelBak Hydration Pack solves that. Fill it with water, strap it on, and sip as needed. We like that there’s a section to throw some snacks in for longer adventures outdoors.

For Keeping Sniffles at Bay
Nature's Way Sambucus Elderberry Immune Gummy
Writer Sarah Glinski appreciated this product’s affordable price point and how excellent the gummies are for cold prevention.

For His Sprints and Marathons
Tune Belt SP2 Running Belt
If running is his thing, then this running belt from Tune Belt is sure to be a game-changer. It’s a lightweight companion that can hold the essentials, including a large phone, keys, a credit card, and some running gels.
“I particularly liked how it didn’t bounce when I ran or feel bulky,” says writer Melissa Mitri, RD. Plus, it’s rather inexpensive, making it an easy gift to give.

For the Family Coach
Franklin Sports Pulse Bright Soccer Ball
“I love the quality of this soccer ball,” says Cossey. Her family has played many games with it and it’s still in great shape, she adds.

For After Those Workouts
Mando Starter Pack
Since we’re encouraging Dad to get moving this Father’s Day, it only makes sense to give him something to freshen up with. The Mando Starter Pack comes with whole-body deodorant, aluminum-free spray deodorant, acidified body wash, an acidified cleansing bar, and acidified deodorant wipes. Let us be clear: This kit truly works.
“I had really good odor and sweat control while using them,” says tester Seth Modglin. The kit is great for someone who prefers aluminum-free deodorant but still wants to smell good.
Tokens of Comfort

For the Dad Searching for Chill
Calm Subscription
Meditation doesn’t have to be intimidating. It can take the form of a five-minute mindful breathing session in the morning while the coffee is brewing or a quick sleep story as you fall asleep. We love the Calm app because it makes introducing mindfulness into a daily routine easier than ever.

For the Already Chill Dad
Birkenstock Boston Soft Clog

For the Dad Who Wants a 5-Star Sleep at Home
Brooklinen Classic Percale Core Sheet Set
That feeling of curling up in a bed of crisp sheets is unmatched. This experience, which typically brings to mind luxe hotel rooms, can now be achieved at home with the Classic Percale Core Sheet Set from Brooklinen. These breathable cotton sheets come in 23 colors and six sizes.
Try not to let the price point scare you off. “This is definitely a higher-priced set, but it’s so breathable and actually made of 100-percent cotton, which comes with a premium,” says editor Ashley Ziegler. This splurge is worth every penny.

For the Hot Sleeper
Bedgear Night Ice 2.0 Performance Pillow
It’s frustrating to try to fall asleep when you’re too hot. If the dad in your life struggles with overheating while snoozing, then try giving him the Night Ice 2.0 Performance Pillow from Bedgear. This pillow isn’t only a gem for its cooling effects; it’s also very supportive.
“This pillow provides the perfect amount of support for side sleeping,” says writer Kara Wahlgren. She tossed and turned less due to the smooth spine alignment this pillow offered.

For a Break From Sensory Overload
Soundcore Space One Pro Headphones
Let’s face one unavoidable fact: Parenthood can be very noisy. If Dad needs a second to catch his breath and zone out, these noise-canceling headphones can make that happen.
Editor Ally Hirschlag’s husband loved the fit, saying they were “super-comfortable for long flights or work sessions.” He also praised the noise cancellation and the pristine sound quality.

For Coffee as Warm as His Heart
Ohom Ui 3 Heated Coffee Mug
No one likes to have to decide between drinking cold coffee or stale reheated coffee. But parenting can get so busy that there’s no time to sip some joe while it’s hot. This heated mug has a wireless heating pad, so the coffee stays warm. The heating pad also doubles as a wireless phone charger.

For the Worried New Dad
Owlet Dream Duo Bundle
Life as a new parent can be anxiety-inducing when you’re responsible for someone so small and helpless. The Owlet Dream Duo bundle is here to ease some of those fears. It comes with the FDA-cleared Dream Sock, which tracks the baby’s pulse and oxygen rate, and the Dream Sight, a high-definition baby monitor with a wide angle. I have this set and can vouch for the peace of mind I experienced when using it.

For the Hydration-Obsessed
Sans Self-Cleaning Water Bottle
Sometimes comfort means taking one more thing off his to-do list. This self-cleaning water bottle from Sans is a great way to help him stay hydrated without the cumbersome chore of having to wash an oddly shaped water bottle. It’s double-insulated, so you can expect hot drinks to stay warm for 17 hours and cold drinks to stay cool for 24 hours.
“I love the fact that it never smells bad and that I don’t have to clean it,” says writer El Wilson.
What Are Some Free or Low-Cost Ways to Support the Dad in My Life?
It’s simple: Help him get some more time for himself. “In a two-parent family, parents can take turns letting each other get out of the house or take time for themselves,” says Lauren Pietra, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Pasadena, California. If it isn’t possible to get away, Pietra encourages fathers to invite friends over to spend time with them and their kids, or go for a walk together.
“Other self-care activities can include exercise, gardening, journaling, listening to music — try to think back on things that made you feel good pre-baby,” says Pietra. A heartfelt card, coffee delivered to bed, or even just watching a movie at home together are other low-cost ways to show appreciation.
Finally, ask how he’s doing often. Being a safe space for him to express himself emotionally is one of the greatest ways you can offer support.

FAQ
Any activity can be fun with the right intentions. Cook a meal together (don’t forget to jot down the ingredients in the Dad’s Kitchen recipe book). Drink coffee together and catch up on life. Chat about the best memories you’ve created together. Regardless of what you decide, lean into the magic of quality time and enjoy each other.
