Vaginal Health & Conditions
FAQ
A vaginal yeast infection can cause itching, burning, or pain in your vagina and vulva, as well as a thick white vaginal discharge.
A course of prescription antibiotics can clear up bacterial vaginosis. These come either as a pill you take by mouth, or as a gel, cream, or suppository you insert into your vagina.
Yes. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis can cause vaginal discharge. Others, including syphilis, genital herpes, and HPV can cause rashes, sores, or warts.
Most often, vaginal dryness is caused by a drop in estrogen levels after menopause or childbirth, or during certain medical treatments. Medications like antihistamines and antidepressants can cause it too.
Regular well-woman visits are important for good health. The frequency of those visits and the need for a physical exam will depend on your age and specific needs. See your doctor in between well-woman visits for any unusual symptoms.
