Taylor Farms Recalls Salsa, Guacamole, and More, Citing Salmonella Risk From Jalapeños

The distributor, already linked to the ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak, said the recalled items were sold at major retailers, including Kroger, Target, Walmart, and Whole Foods.

Taylor Farms, the giant fresh-produce supplier linked to an ongoing multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis, has now recalled a slew of ready-made food items because they may contain jalapeños contaminated with Salmonella, a genus of bacteria that can cause serious and potentially fatal food poisoning. The company said it wasn’t aware of any illnesses linked to the recalled items.

This action is related to a larger federal investigation of salmonella illnesses linked to fresh jalapeños grown in Sinaloa, Mexico, and sold by Coast Citrus Distributors to distributors, restaurants, and food-service companies. Taylor Farms’ recalled ready-made food products were made with jalapeños from the same Coast Citrus Distributors, Taylor Farms said.

Taylor Farms has recalled the following products sold at the following stores. All items have “Best if Used By” dates up to and including August 16, 2026.

Do not eat any of the recalled foods. Throw them away or return them to the store for a refund. To lower your risk of illness, clean any surfaces that may have come into contact with these items in hot, soapy water.

How Salmonella Can Make You Sick

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Infections can be serious and potentially fatal for vulnerable groups, including young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of salmonella infection can start anywhere from six hours to six days after a person eats contaminated food. These symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea (which may be bloody)
  • Stomach cramps
  • Nausea and vomiting

Food poisoning caused by salmonella usually lasts four to seven days. Dehydration is the biggest concern; drink plenty of clear fluids while you recover.

In severe cases, infection can spread from the intestines to the blood, which could lead to life-threatening complications without prompt treatment.

Most cases of salmonella poisoning get better on their own, but if you belong to a vulnerable group, or if your symptoms are severe, you should seek medical care.
