Hypophosphatasia is a rare inherited condition that weakens and softens bones and teeth and increases the risk of fractures or tooth loss, causing symptoms that vary significantly between people and that are often more severe in children than adults. No cure is available, but an asfotase alfa (Strensiq) injection can improve bone health and quality of life. Other treatments address specific symptoms.
