Codeine and dexbrompheniramineis a combination medicine used for a short time to treat runny nose, sneezing, an itchy nose or throat, watery eyes, and cough caused by a cold or allergies (hay fever).

What is the most important information I should know about Duratuss Ac (Oral)?
You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to codeine and dexbrompheniramine.
Do not use if you are taking a MAO inhibitor (certain antibiotics or medicines for anxiety, mood disorders, or Parkinson's disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping a MAO inhibitor. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you use before taking codeine and dexbrompheniramine.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist if this medicine is safe to use if you have or have ever had:
- an enlarged prostate or urination problems;
- glaucoma;
- a breathing problem such as emphysema, or chronic bronchitis;
- cough with severe mucus, or cough caused by asthma, smoking, or emphysema;
- heart disease;
- high blood pressure;
- a thyroid disorder; or
- diabetes.
Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Codeine and dexbrompheniramine should not be given to a child younger than 6 years old.
Do not allow any child to use codeine and dexbrompheniramine without help from an adult.
Side Effects
What are the side effects of Duratuss Ac (Oral)?
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using codeine and dexbrompheniramine and call your doctor at once if you have:
- new or worsening symptoms such as cough or nasal congestion; or
- fever, rash, headache.
Common side effects may include:
- feeling restless or excited (especially in children);
- drowsiness; or
- constipation.

How to take Duratuss Ac (Oral)?
Use Duratuss Ac (Oral) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Follow all directions when giving this medicine to a child. Do not use the medicine to make a child sleepy. Misuse of this medicine may cause death in very young children.
Measure liquid medicine with the supplied measuring device (not a kitchen spoon).
Do not use this medicine more often than directed.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days, or if you have a cough or nasal congestion that will not stop, fever, rash, or headaches.
Keep track of your medicine. Codeine is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if anyone is using your medicine improperly or without a prescription.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Codeine and dexbrompheniramine is used when needed. If you are on a dosing schedule, skip any missed dose. Do not use two doses at one time.
